Tenants Victoria’s updated Family Violence Protection Tenancy Kit for community workers is out now. The completely revised kit incorporates the strengthened measures for those affected by family violence in amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act 1997. It aims to help people in rental housing know their rights, have a secure home and limit any financial loss. The kit is designed to provide detailed information for community workers to help them assist people affected by family violence. However, it also includes step-by-step examples to help renters affected by family violence who need to make applications to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) for orders, to fill out the applications themselves. The illustrated examples cover matters such as challenging a notice to vacate the property from the rental provider (landlord) that was triggered by the perpetrator’s behaviour.
